The Mozambican Athletics Federation (FMA) and FNB Mozambique are excited to host the inaugural “FNB Maputo 10K CityRun” on 10th November, Maputo City Day, placing the Mozambican capital in the group of iconic cities that already host the FNB Run Your City Series, namely Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
The run will feature over 2000 participants, including international elite athletes, Mozambican athletes as well as everyday runners, and will offer the unique opportunity to cross the Maputo-Katembe Bridge by foot.
“We believe this run will improve and grow the sport of athletics in Mozambique. We’ll give all our support to ensure the success of this run”, said Francisco Manheche, President of FMA, the partner of the event.
As with the existing three events in the FNB Run Your City Series, the “FNB Maputo 10K CityRun” race route is designed to take participants along the historic and iconic routes around the city, thus adding a tourist element to make it more than a run, and an economic opportunity for surrounding communities.
“I believe that with this run we are creating a platform to both promote health and Maputo City, its beauty and iconic points that attract tourism to the city”, noted Paulo Pereira, Deputy Managing Director of FNB Mozambique.
Featuring a 10km flat course, the race will start at Katembe Municipal Building granting participants the opportunity to experience the beautiful landscape of Maputo City, passing by emblematic Tunduru Garden before finishing at Independence Square.
