A 27-year-old Mozambican woman was arrested last week at Mavalane International Airport in Maputo for trafficking cocaine.
According to a statement from the Tax Authority of Mozambique (AT), Maura Camilo tried to enter the country with 1.2 kg of cocaine concealed in her wig and other parts of her body.
The woman arrived in Maputo from Guarulhos, in Brazil, the same city from which a Brazilian citizen arrested last Monday (20-09) in possession of 1.2 kg of cocaine-type drugs hidden in a suitcase, was travelling.
Maura Camilo confessed to customs authorities that this was not the first time she had transported drugs into the Mozambique, a previous operation having taken place last June.
According to the AT press release, several calls were made to the contacts who were supposed to greet the young woman, but without success, raising suspicions that the ring already knew about Maura’s detention.
