Mozambican and Rwandan forces on Friday killed 13 islamist terrorists and wounded a further three in a clash in an area known as “Nova Familia” (“New Family”) in Nangade district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report in Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Mediafax”.
The joint forces seized 13 firearms, and surviving jihadists fled towards the Nkonga forest. They passed through the Ngongo production centre where they killed one person and injured a second in the leg. The injured person received medical treatment in the Nangade town health centre.
Reports circulating in Nangade on Sunday suggested that the jihadists had reached Mtipuedi area, about 25 kilometres from the town. The local Nangade militia is pursuing them.
A second newssheet, “Carta de Mocambique”, reports that three other terrorists, believed to be fleeing from the current offensive by the Mozambican forces, were captured by the local population in Nova Zambezia village, in Macomia district, and then handed over to the defence and security forces.
“Carta de Mocambique” also reports that terrorists intercepted a boat carrying people fleeing from the islamist raids at Muichanga island and murdered its occupants. It is not known how many people were on board the boat.
