More than 20 high-ranking Africans made the list of the “2017 100 Most Reputable People on Earth” that was published by Reputation Poll, a global research-based, performance-management consulting company.
The list is comprised of individuals from across the globe that have gained high reputations through their work and accomplishments. They represent different sectors, including policy, entertainment, leadership, religion, education, business, and more.
In the political sphere, notable African leaders are on top of the list, including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, South African lawyer and politician Mathew Phosa, former Nigerian Minister of Finance Dr. Okonjo Iweala, Nigerian Emir of the Kano Emirat Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as well as Graça Machel, a Mozambican politician and widow of the former President of Mozambique Samora Machel and South African President Nelson Mandela.
Several top African religious leaders and priests are also listed, including Nigerian Bishop David Oyedepo, South African social rights activist and retired Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu, Nigerian doctor and Pastor Paul Enenche, and famed Nigerian Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
In the entrepreneurial circle, several noteworthy names appear on the list, including African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina; Cameroonian technology entrepreneur and founder of AppsTech Rebecca Enonchong; Sudanese-British mobile communications entrepreneur and billionaire Mo Ibrahim; and prominent Zimbabwean businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Strive Masiyiwa.
Given the rapid pace at which the African entertainment industry is growing, several Africans were selected. They include South Africa’s top media personality and comedian Trevor Noah and Nigerian novelist and feminist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
A number of African diplomats also made the list, including renowned Ghanaian diplomat and seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan; Nigerian co-founder of Transparency International Obiageli Ezekwesili; top Botswana judge, human rights activist, and writer Unity Dow; and Ugandan politician and Oxfam Executive Director Winnie Byanyima.
Two top African educationists Calestous Juma of Kenya and engineer Patrick Awuah of Ghana, who is the founder of Ashesi University, also made the cut.
Those who were ranked among the most prominent global personalities are former U.S. President Barack Obama, his wife Michelle, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Greece Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, and more.
The announcement
South African research-based, global performance-management consulting company, Reputation Poll has announced its inaugural list of 100 Most Reputable People on Earth, a list of individuals across the globe who have amassed high reputation for themselves through the works they have been engaged in. The list which features individuals from diverse sectors including politics, entertainment, policy, education, business etc. also has representation from 37 countries across the globe.
Notable individuals on the list include renowned Evangelist Billy Graham, 98, who doubles up as the oldest person and Raymond Wang, Malala Yousafzai, both 19 years, and the youngest people to be listed.
Statically, the USA has the largest share of reputable personalities numbering 39 also with a representation of 25 females, 3 couples and 72 Males.
Management during the announcement of the list, noted, they are looking forward to these individuals to continue their works which are impacting lives across the world, and also advised them to do enough to leave hybrids of their characters and reputation across the world.
