In the scope of its support for the popularisation of sport and empowerment of Mozambican athletes, Moza Banco is sponsoring national judo athlete Jacira Ferreira’s participation in competitions year, including the African Judo Championships taking place in Dakar-Senegal between the 20th and 23rd May. The event is a qualifier for the World Judo Championships scheduled for next June.

Jacira Ferreira has been Mozambican national judo champion for the last six years, and is currently the number one female judo athlete in Mozambique in the 52 kilogram category and the second best-ranking in qualification for the 2021 Olympic games.
In 2015, at just 17 years of age, Jacira was the first Mozambican woman judoka to participate in the Congo Brazaville Games. Later, at the age of 19, she participated in the World Senior Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The athlete was also the first Mozambican woman judoka to participate in the World Judo Championships, in 2017. She has competed in three World Championships and participated in the African Games twice.
Also in her resume are a bronze medal in the African Judo Open in Yaoundé, Cameroon, a silver medal in the AUSC Games (Region 5), two bronze medals in the SAJC (Zone 6 Judo Championship), and two gold medals and four silver medals in the South Africa Judo Open (SA Open).
The Moza Banco initiative falls within the scope of its support for the internationalisation of national sport as a vehicle for the projection of the country in the global context.
In pursuit of the same goals, Moza Banco at the end of 2019 signed a partnership agreement with the Mozambican Basketball Federation sponsoring the participation of the national senior women’s basketball team in the Tokyo Olympic Games qualifying tournament.
