Motorcycle-taxi driver António Tique was found dead on Friday 7 October in Vanduzi district, Manica province, supposedly murdered by criminals who stole his motorcycle and other belongings.
One of his colleagues told @Verdade that on that day he had set off for an unknown destination with a young customer and never returned.
“A young customer, who was not known to us, told our brother to take him to a place here in the district. I do not know which place it was, but when they got to the Almada area he was murdered. We suspect that he was beaten to death because his body bore marks of physical violence,” his colleague said.
The witness said that suspicions centred on the passenger. “These cases are frequent here in Manica. The bad guys masquerade as customers and then kill the owners of motorcycles and take their ‘txopelas’.”
Another motorcycle-taxi operator from Vanduzi said the deceased was “carrying a client to Matsinhe, here in the district, in the early afternoon. But he did not come back, and we suspect that he was beaten to death.”
