According to the Secretary of State for Nampula, Mety Gondola, speaking during the Extraordinary Session of the Emergency Operative Committee this Wednesday (26-01), humanitarian assistance for those affected people over the next 15 days will cost 72,031,300 meticais.
The government of Nampula, Mozambique’s most populous province, says it needs more than 72 million meticais (around US$1 million) for victims of Tropical Depression Ana, which hit the province between the 23rd and 25th of this month.

Preliminary data from the government authorities of Nampula indicate that Ana directly affected 24,275 people, in 5,504 families, through the destruction of 5,518 homes as well as other loss of property, especially food.
As a result of cyclone, many families are living in deplorable conditions, with difficulty accessing food and drinking water and poor sanitation conditions, among others.
The provincial government, through the National Institute for Disaster and Risk Management (INGD), says it is not able to guarantee assistance to families affected by the weather in several areas during the next 15 days.
For example, the INGD estimates that 500,000 kg of cereal will be needed during that time, but currently only 12,400 kg is available.
