More than 3,000 families in the administrative post of Dombe, Manica province, are facing famine as a result of losing their crops to Cyclone Idai.
The cyclone had a devastating effect in Dombe, Sussundenga district, with many hectares of crops lost. This situation is now resulting in more than 3,000 families, mainly from Mabaia, suffering acute food insecurity, Chief of the Administrative Post of Dombe Tomás Razão says.
The population is surviving on tubers and small odd jobs, he says.
Razão says that organisations providing humanitarian assistance are more focused on supporting families in resettlement neighbourhoods, and calls for them to offer more comprehensive help, since many families outside those communities are in need of food aid too.
