More than 300 teachers in Zambézia province have not been paid for five months, following the introduction of the new payment platforms of the Single Salary Table (TSU)and delays in carrying out ‘proof of life’ assessments.
The information was revealed to journalists in Quelimane this Monday by Provincial Director of Education Joaquim Casal Oficial, who says that efforts, in tandem with the Provincial Service for Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Finance, are underway to overcome the problem.
“During the week just ended, I was in the districts of Mocuba and Gilé, where there are a large number of these teachers,” Oficial said.
“What is really happening is a lack of registration ( in TSU salary payment platforms] and some situations that also coincided with problems with proof of life. Employees know that, in the month they were born, they have to do proof of life. I don’t know what happened, but many didn’t do this, which ended up influencing the lack of payment. But it is being overcome, which is why the numbers are down from 500 to 300. It’s not a money problem, it’s a system problem in the register.”
Oficial has called for calm, saying that the problem would soon be resolved.
