More than 200 Mozambicans entered the country illegally from neighbouring South Africa at the Ponta de Ouro crossing at dawn today, and are being held there for Covid-19 screening, O País reports.
Since the outbreak and worsening of the new coronavirus pandemic in neighbouring South Africa, that country has decreed a “lockdown”, and closed some border crossings with Mozambique, Ponta do Ouro among them.
Even so, more than 200 Mozambicans entered the country illegally from neighbouring South Africa at the Ponta de Ouro crossing at dawn today. And because they arrived from a country with many cases of Covid-19, they are now being held at the crossing for Covid-19 screening.
Last week, the National Migration Service repatriated 16 foreigners for staying in the country illegally, of whom 11 were Ethiopians, two Angolans, two Swazis and one Malawian.
During the same period, national border posts registered passage of 10,100 travellers of different nationalities, of whom 4,694 entered and 5,451 left, a decrease of 90% compared to the same period last year, when 98,367 travellers were seen.
