Number of foreign visitors to Mozambican heritage tripled in one year

The Ressano Garcia border post registered the largest number of travellers, with a total of 115,500 people. National Migration Service spokeswoman Cira Fernandes said entries there peaked on March 29 with 17,327 travellers, and exits on April 2 with 23,844.
Other busy border crossings were Machipanda in Manica and Cuchamano in Tete. “In Machipanda, we saw 11,638 travellers crossing and in Cuchamano we had 10,220,” Fernandes said.
National Migration Service Director Ambrósio Urbano expressed his satisfaction, saying that Operation Easter was a success. “The main objective of the operation was to facilitate the movement of travellers and motor vehicles and ensure order, tranquillity and public safety,” he explained.
The operation also aimed at “reducing clearance time and, without prejudice to legal formalities and customs control, as well as ensuring the provision of better services in public service.”
Elements of the National Immigration Service (SENAMI), Mozambique Customs and Police, the National Highway Administration (ANE), the National Land Transport Institute (INATER) and others took part in Operation Easter.
