Mozambique: Protesters block the EN1 in Inhambane
More Russian (Wagner Group) mercenaries arrived in Cabo Delgado recently to bolster the Mozambican government’s efforts to combat terrorism, ‘Carta de Moçambique’ has learned from a military source. “The new men are going to do more than use technology (drones). They will be deployed on the ground,” the source revealed.
Russian military aid has clearly been an option for the government, with both military equipment and combat troops arriving from Russia. According to Africa Intelligence, a Russian Antonov freight plane landed in Nacala on February 23, carrying a military cargo, including another helicopter to join the one brought in last September.
The Antonov An-124 flew from Baikal International Airport, Ulan-Ude, Siberia, near the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, which assembles the Mi-17 helicopter. The flight was operated by the Russian state 224 Flight Unit.
