The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, João Machatine, announced in Pemba, Cabo Delgado, on Friday that the alternative Montepuez River bridge on the EN380, which connects the north and centre of the province, would be ready by December of this year.
Machatine, who did not advance the cost of the infrastructure, explained that it would have concrete supporting pillars and a metal deck, and would replace the concrete bridge which collapsed earlier this year following heavy rain.
Minister Machatine visited Cabo Delgado and met local businesspeople to announce the appointment of a post-cyclone Kenneth reconstruction coordinator, who will present the plans for post-Idai and Kenneth activities in the central and northern parts of the province, alongside financial provisions for their realisation.
Businesspeople, however, complain of alleged neglect of the province as regards the amounts allocated for reconstruction.
While in Cabo Delgado, Minister Machatine presided over the inauguration of water supply systems in Balama and Namuno.
