More than 250 tons of cashew nuts were sold, in ten lots, in the capital of Mogovolas district, Nampula province, this Thursday, in the first auction of the season.
Organized by the Bolsa de Mercadorias de Moçambique in coordination with the Instituto de Amêndoas de Moçambique, over 60 bidders participated in the pilot event, including industrialists, stockists and value chain players.
The maximum purchase price was 50 meticais per kilogram, and the minimum, 45. The reference price (to the producer) in this marketing campaign is 37.80 meticais.
Mogovolas administrator Isalde Ussene said that the district expects to sell around 17,000 tons of cashew nuts this season, of a province-wide target of 70,000 tons.
