Mozambique: Six thousand stranded as floods hit Chibuto district

An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale hit central Mozambique on Friday night, waking residents but causing no damage, according to reports collated by Lusa.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), which records seismic activity around the world, indicates that the earthquake’s epicentre was 10 kilometres below the forested area 63 kilometres south-east of Chimoio, capital of Manica province.
The shock, at 11:45m p.m. drew residents of Chimoio out into the streets to check the state of their houses, many of them of precarious construction, Lusa learned.
The quake lasted about half a minute, with no damage reported at the time of publication, Lusa adds.
