The Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, began a two-day working visit to Rwanda on Sunday (11-08), where, on the same afternoon, he participated in the inauguration of President Paul Kagame.
Thousands of citizens attended the event in a stadium in Kigali, the Rwandan capital.
Kagamé, 66, was re-elected last July for a fourth term with 99.18% of the votes, according to official results, extending a 30-year leadership by another five years.
“President Nyusi’s visit to Rwanda is taking place within the scope of strengthening and deepening the historical relations of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples, countries and Governments and, equally, as an opportunity for the two Heads of State and Government to exchange views on various issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation,” reads a statement from the Presidency of the Republic sent to AIM.
During his two-day visit to Rwanda, Filipe Nyusi will hold talks with his counterpart, aimed at deepening of relations of cooperation and friendship between Maputo and Kigali.
Mozambique and Rwanda enjoy very close relations, especially in the last three years, with the sending of a military force of over two thousand men to support the Defence and Security Forces in the fight against terrorists in the province of Cabo Delgado.
