Moatize preliminary results delayed – recounting because 5 votes were challenged – Mozambique Elections

18h35m – The announcement of the results of the elections in the Moatize village of Tete has been postponed, with no indication of at waht time will it take place.

According to DW Africa correspondent Amos Zacarias, this change in schedule is being justified by the fact that, on the last minute, five votes were challenged, of which three in favour of RENAMO and two of FRELIMO.

At the moment, technicians of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) are gathered to carry out the re-qualification of the results and to later produce the ‘edital’.

Meanwhile, members and sympathisers of RENAMO continue gathered in the village of Moatize. DW knows that in this municipality, the largest party of the Mozambican opposition has an advantage.

In the city of Tete, where results are already known, there is no register of celebrations by FRELIMO members and supporters. In fact, at the ceremony to present the results, few sympathisers of the ruling party were present.

16h47m – In the village of Moatize and in the city of Tete, the environment is tense with several police officers patrolling the streets, reports DW Africa correspondent Amos Zacharias. The announcement of the results in the village of Moatize was scheduled for 15 hours, but so far everything is silent. DW Africa was in the place where the results were scheduled to be announced, however, only RENAMO members were there, heavily guarded by the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM). DW knows that the delay in announcing the results is due to the fact that STAE members are refusing to sign the results announcement.
