Mozambique: Foreign Ministry denies employing Brazilian drug trafficker - AIM report

A multisectoral Government of Mozambique team is reinforcing coronavirus (Covid-19) prevention measures and improving the country’s response capacity in case of the country registering any occurrence.
The information was released in the early evening of Thursday, March 5, by the Minister of Health, Armindo Daniel Tiago, during a press conference convened for this purpose.
On the occasion, several actions already underway across the country were announced. These include:
• Creation of a Technical Committee to analyse the trend of the epidemic globally, and update the list of countries subject to home quarantine, based on the following criteria: cumulative number of cases, daily incidence of cases; the volume of passengers, whenever applicable;
• Reinforcement of screening at entry points at national level (airports, ports and land borders) for all international passengers, by measuring the temperature;
• Strengthening the readiness of technical teams for the detection and investigation of rumours and suspicious cases;
• Purchasing individual protection material, specifically, 829,000 N95 masks and 144,000 pairs of sterile gloves;
• Acquired reagents for testing 2,000 cases;
• Reinforcement of the monitoring of passengers from areas with high local transmission; and
• Ability to isolate suspected cases in all provinces.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has called for the strict observance of the following preventive measures:
• Wash your hands frequently, especially after direct contact with sick people, or with contaminated objects;
• Avoid close contact with people with flu symptoms, such as handshaking, sharing household items (glass, fork, spoon);
• Cough etiquette (keep your distance, cover your mouth and sneeze with disposable clothes or tissues and wash your hands); and
• In health units, reinforce your bio-security measures, especially in the emergency services.
For now, according to the Minister of Health, Mozambique has, to date, no reported and confirmed cases of coronavirus infection.
