MIREME launches environmental and social plan for gas and mining sector – Mozambique

The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) will today launch in Maputo its ‘Action Plan for the Implementation of Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment for the Mining and Natural Gas Sector’ [Plano de Acção de Implementação da Avaliação Ambiental e Social Estratégica para os Sectores de Minas e Gás Natural].
According to a statement to which Notícias Online has had access, the instrument, to be launched in coordination with the ministries of Land, Environment and Rural Development and Gender, Child and Social Action, aims, among other purposes, to safeguard the environment and society, and implement pilot of social and corporate responsibility projects for the extractive industry.
The event will be attended civil society organisations, the diplomatic corps and interested public parties.
