The Mozambican government wants the Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries to be represented in the National Defence Council, and has included the proposal in a revision of the Law on the Organisation and Operation of the National Defence Council submitted to parliament.
National Defence Minister Atanasio M’tumuke explained at the end of a Parliamentary Commission on Defence, Security and Public Order hearing that the government’s aim was to improve mechanisms for protecting the sea and its resources.
The chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Defence, Security and Public Order, Jerónimo Malagueta, noted that the commission had also heard the Minister of Defence on the proposed revision of the Policy of Defence, Civic Service and the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM).
