The Ministry of Culture has issued a message of condolences on the death of Domingos Macamo, the Secretary-General of the Association of Mozambican Musicians (AMMO) and non-executive administrator of the Fund for Artistic and Cultural Development (FUNDAC).
Domingos Macamo, a music producer and retired music editor for Rádio Moçambique, died on Saturday at the Provincial Hospital of Maputo.
“It was with deep regret,” the message recads, “that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, became aware of the death of Domingos Macamo on the 6th March, 2021, at the Maputo Provincial hospital.
“Domingos Macano worked at the former Instituto Nacional do Livro e do Disco (INLD), an institution formerly overseen by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He distinguished himself in the world of music as the vocalist of the group ‘Happy Man’, a music editor and a promoter of musical shows.
“In the course of his career, Macamo embraced other tasks, such as head of shows at FACIM, head of RIFA and the Editorial Department of Rádio Moçambique, and a promoter of musical contests such s Ngoma Mozambique and Top Feminino, becoming in effect a leading figure in the national entertainment industry.
“In addition to being a colleague, Macamo constitutes for us an essential reference in the panorama of Mozambican cultural management, as he knew how to bring leadership and business acumen to the sector in favour of culture and the affirmation of Mozambicanity.
“The death of this distinguished artist means the loss of one of the great cultural managers, leaving an irreparable void in the country’s cultural heritage. In this moment of pain, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, on behalf of all art makers, addresses the most heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the Ministry of Culture’s a message of condolences on the death of Domingos Macamo concludes.
Domingos Macamo was buried this Tuesday in Lhanguene cemetery in Maputo, preceded by a wake at the headquarters of the Association of Musicians of Mozambique.
