Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Mesquita visited municipal public passenger transport companies in Maputo, EMTPM, and Matola, ETM, yesterday and noted with satisfaction the increase in the number of buses in operation.
He pointed out that EMTPM, which previously had an average of 25 buses in operation, now had 59 as a result of the participation of Mozambique Railways (CFM) and investments made through the Transport and Communications Fund.
He said that in the ETM the situation was different, and it had only 12 buses available to cover the 36 routes the company is supposed to operate.
“We have eight buses out of a lot of ten that have not yet begun to operate due to manufacturing problems. By way of example, these buses have only one door, with seats suitable for long-distance travel and have no hand-runner. This type of vehicle is not suitable for urban passenger transport,” he said.
