Mozambique: Health workers threaten to resume strike

Mozambique’s Minister of Science and Technology, Jorge Nhambiu, on Thurday called for the establishment of an integrated, coherent and flexible system of technical and professional education, guided by the demands of the labour market.
To achieve this goal, he called on the General Inspectorate of his ministry (which also covers higher and professional education) to pay special attention to the challenges facing research institutions and establishments of higher, technical and professional education.
Speaking at a Maputo ceremony were several senior officials in the ministry took office, Nhambiu called on the National Directorate of Science and Technology to continue promoting the creation and accreditation of institutions of scientific research and technological innovation, and to survey and update the national scientific potential.
“The Science, Technology and Innovation Display, which recently held its 13th annual edition, should continue to be a space for exhibiting the discovery of new talents”, the Minister said.
As for the National Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies, Nhambiu said it should continue defining technical standards and specifications for computer systems to ensure compatibility among the systems used in electronic governance for the provision of public services.
The Planning, Studies and Cooperation Directorate, he said, should prioritise planning as a vital tool for complying successfully with the targets contained in the government’s five year programme for the areas of science, technology, higher and professional education.
Directors from all these areas were among those who took office at the ceremony.
