Minister Moreno leads Mozambican delegation to US-Africa Business Summit

A delegation led by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, representing the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, is from Tuesday to Friday participating in the US-Africa Business Summit in Marrakech, Morocco, under the motto “Building Forward Together”.
The summit aims to explore and renew the commitment of the public and private sectors to consolidating US-Africa trade and investment in the face of unprecedented health and economic adversities, and will focus on priority sectors for Africa, including Health, Energy, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Agribusiness and ICTs, and Information and Communication Technologies.
The Marrakesh summit will also address issues linked to the creation of a sustainable food ecosystem; Africa’s capacity for local production of medical products; narrowing the digital divide in a post-Covid world; construction of road infrastructure for growth; scaling innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT) to accelerate African growth; trade facilitation; and women and youth entrepreneurship aimed at generating shared growth. There will be a plenary session on financing.
On the sidelines of the summit, a round table between American and African businessmen including Mozambique is scheduled.

In the context of business facilitation between the US and Africa, the American government adopted the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) for access to the US market. The act came into force, for Mozambique, in 2000 and was extended until 2025. A ‘National Strategy for the Use of AGOA 2018-2025’ programme was designed for its materialisation.
The Mozambican delegation includes the Mozambican Ambassador to the US, the Economic Adviser in the US, staff from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the National Administration for Conservation Areas, the Zambezi Valley Development Agency, the Mphanda Nkuwa Hydroelectric Project, Mozambique Airports, and representatives from the private sector.
