Mozambican Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy Leticia Klemens is starting a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom today at the invitation of the British Government.
The minister’s program focuses mainly on her participation in the SubSea Expo 2017 Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen, Scotland, one of the most respected centers in the oil and gas sector worldwide, and also includes meetings with representatives of the British government and the private sector in London.
The visit is encouraged by the UK’s vast experience in the oil and gas sector and by opportunities for cooperation and exchange of best practice experience. By collaborating and working with British experts and companies, Mozambique can maximize its potential in the sector and ensure that the exploitation of mineral and energy resources has a positive impact on the country’s economic and social development.
During her speech at the conference, the minister will comment on the potential of Mozambique’s energy sector and its opportunities and challenges.
Accompanied by representatives of the National Petroleum Institute and National Hydrocarbons Company, the minister will visit the international exhibition, which has more than 150 participating organizations from various specialties in the sector.
In Aberdeen, the minister will visit Robert Gordon University, which has a top-of-the-range oil operations simulator that oil companies use to model the infrastructure needed for gas exploration and production.
Also in the education field, Minister Klemens and the High Commissioner of Mozambique in the United Kingdom, Filipe Chidumo, will talk to Mozambican students studying different specialties in the oil and gas sector. Some are beneficiaries of Chevening scholarships offered by the British government.
The minister is to meet UK Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell, and the local mayor, Lord Provost, in order to strengthen partnership and cooperation between the municipalities of Aberdeen and Pemba.
In London, the minister will be welcomed by the Minister for Africa in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tobias Ellwood, the Minister of International Trade, Greg Hands, and the Prime Minister’s Commercial Envoy, Richard Benyon.
The visit will close with meetings with international companies in the energy sector and a speech, organized by Chatham House, the Royal Institute for International Affairs, in which the minister will present and explain the Mozambican context and have the opportunity to interact with British companies and experts.
