Mozambique targets universal access to drinking water by 2029
Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Mesquita travelled to Turkey on 5 and 6 June as special envoy of President Nyusi, having previously visited the Russian Federation from 1 to 3 June.
In Ankara, Mesquita met the Turkish minister for foreign affairs and delivered a message from President Nyusi to the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The two also reviewed cooperation between Mozambique and Turkey, addressing topics such as economic cooperation and strategic partnerships of mutual advantage, training and development of human capital and the fight against terrorism.
Mesquita reiterated that the Mozambican government respected the sovereignty of states and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, respecting the norms of international law and sharing in efforts to combat terrorism.
In addition to meeting the minister of foreign affairs, Mesquita met Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Ahmed Arslan, with whom he discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the transport and communications sector.
In Russia, President Nyusi’s message to President Putin was delivered to the Minister of Communications and Mass Media, with whom other matters were discussed, such as historical and friendly relations of solidarity and diplomatic cooperation, political, cultural and economic development, and the need to promote private sector business partnerships between the two countries.
At the bilateral level, the two leaders agreed to jointly prepare a communications sector agreement to boost cooperation between Mozambique and Russia in specific areas such as the development and expansion of ICTs, e-government and cyber security, satellite communication, broadband, digitalisation processes, mass media platforms and the recruitment of Russian science and engineering teachers to teach in Mozambique.
