Mozambican bank Millenium bim is donating 15 million meticais previously budgeted for its anniversary celebrations to Maputo Central Hospital.
The bank has opted to cancel its 25th anniversary celebrations and instead donate the entire budget to Maputo Central Hospital in support of the health unit fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The amount , around US$369,000, will go to medical services and the surgery block, and for the purchase of personal protection equipment for health professionals.
Other interventions sponsored by Millenium bim include the rehabilitation of a pneumatology area, which will have a new and modern gas system and ventilators, creating conditions for the best treatment of the new coronavirus and other respiratory diseases.
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Millennium bim, Rui Fonseca, lauds this symbolic gesture “at a time when all national efforts must join the fight and prevention of coronavirus. On the other hand, it reaffirms the bank’s commitment to Mozambican society, giving a response of clear support and readiness at a time of great adversity like this”.
Fonseca also recognises the important role of the institution’s employees, who, in his view, “are profoundly committed professionals and responsible for its robustness and excellent performance. At a time like this, our employees also demonstrate their common sense and altruism, by agreeing to not celebrate such an important date, but rather to support Mozambicans”.
