New Defence and Security Force personnel must be fit to defend the country against enemies of the motherland who do not want to see the development of Mozambique reach the provinces of Sofala and Manica and in some districts in the north of Cabo Delgado.

Such are the groups carrying out armed attacks in the centre of the country and in the northern operational theatre, Minister of National Defence Jaime Neto announced at the Polígono Instruction Centre in Anchilo last Friday (05-03).

The minister of defence spoke about the oath on the flag taken by a group of cadets who trained for three months to join the senior officers of the permanent staff of the FDS in order to define more effective strategies to oppose the enemy actions.

For his part, the Commander of Marechal Samora Machel Military Academy, Major-General, Cristóvão Chume, said that the changes that are currently taking place in the training process there seek to meet the demands of the FDS, in view of the military scenarios registered in the country.

The young people who swore on the flag are specialised in infantry, troop recognition, armoured vehicles, land and air artillery, aviation pilots, marines, radar engineering, military, electronics, mechanics, naval, communications and military administration, logistics and personnel management.

Before conducting the ceremony, Minister Jaime Neto attended demonstrations on the obstacle course, with search, transposition, martial arts and lunge scenarios, subsequently visiting the firing range before attending the closing parade.
