The health sector in Zambézia has declared an outbreak of measles in six districts in the province, the deputy head of the Department of Epidemiological Surveillance in the Provincial Directorate of Health announced in Quelimane on Thursday.
Benedito Gimo said the outbreak was first diagnosed in the Nauela administrative post, Alto Molócuè district, in March.
“A vaccination campaign is being prepared, and will take place in the next few days. We are mobilising the necessary (financial) resources to carry out this mini-campaign and limit the spread of cases,” he said.
Gimo says that 17 cases of measles in children under 14 years old have so far been recorded in the districts of Alto Molócuè, Pebane, Mocuba, Luabo Mopeia and Ile.
