The leader of Mozambique’s second largest opposition party, the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM), Daviz Simango, has suggested the inclusion of other sectors of the society in the political dialogue process and he condemned the persistent attacks carried out by armed militias of the country’s main opposition Renamo party, APA learns here Sunday.
Addressing a media briefing in the central port town of Quelimane on Sunday, on the sidelines of an MDM meeting, Simango expressed satisfaction at the way his movement had been administering the municipalities of Beira, Quelimane, Nampula and Gurue.
Simango said the political dialogue will only have desired results if it is extended to other political actors and the society in general.
“We understand that the exclusion of other forces in the dialogue process has been hindering the necessary progress so that whatever resultant peace can be effective. It is necessary to understand that in any rule of law, the gun is not the way to reach power. Therefore, we should not allow the continuation of the use of weapons as a means of attaining power.”
