Joaquim de Nascimento, the Mozambique police commander in Maxixe, Inhambane, and his chief of operations, Julião Ruben, are being held in Maxixe Maximum Security Prison on charges of qualified homicide.
The two senior members of the PRM are among the four members of the corporation who have been arrested over their alleged involvement in the murder of four people whose bodies were found in the woods in the district of Funhalouro last May.
According to Inhambane provincial prosecutor spokesman José Ernesto, the crime was committed in May of last year, with the provincial prosecutor’s office initiating procedures that resulting in the suspects being jailed.
“Some people have been detained, but we have nothing to add, because the process is still at an early stage,” Ernesto said.
According to A Verdade, the crime was committed in 2017 in Funhalouro district, where authorities found four dead bodies in a forest. While at first it was not known what had happened, the investigation concluded that the victims had been shot, and that those responsible had attempted to mislead the authorities.
