Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario stressed yesterday the atmosphere of “cordiality and openness” of his Tuesday meeting with the IMF Director General Christine Lagarde on the disclosure of loans secured by the government but not included in the public accounts.
“Matters on the public debt were aproached and clarified, and aspects concerning cooperation and prospects for financial and technical assistance from the IMF to Mozambique were passed in review,” a press release from the Prime Minister’s office says, without advancing further details about the content of the meeting.
The Mozambican prime minister met Christine Lagarde in Washington on Tuesday and, according to a statement from IMF, acknowledged the existence of more than a billion US dollars of external debt that Mozambique not been previously declared to the Fund.
