Four people died and three were injured yesterday morning in an accident on the Mozal road, near the Matola-Rio administration offices in Maputo province.
The accident, which according to witnesses occurred at about 10:40 am, involved a Toyota Hiace minibus registration MVB07-42, and a truck belonging to Adilson Construções Lda whose registration plate was not found.
The sources said that the disaster was caused by the driver of the Malhampsene-Mozal minibus overtaking another car and hitting the truck, traveling in the opposite direction, head-on. The goods vehicle reportedly tried unsuccessfully to avoid collision.
The bodies of the dead were transferred to the morgue in Maputo Central Hospital and the injured sent to the Matola Provincial Hospital.
According to Angelino Nhancale, the director of the emergency room in Matola, two of the victims had just minor injuries, but the driver had head injuries sufficiently severe to warrant his immediate transfer to Maputo.
