Matola Municipal Council intends to invest more than 280 million meticais ( around US$4.2 million at current exchange rates) in roads by the end of this year. Uneven roads, some almost impassable, are tarnishing the municipality’s image, a fact scenario the city intends to reverse in the coming years.
Matola Mayor Calisto Cossa presented the road intervention plan a few days ago, saying that funds for the improvement had already been mobilised and the schedule defined.
“By the end of this year, the rehabilitation works and the construction of access roads will be concluded,” the Matola mayor said.
Despite the city’s effort, over 680 kilometres of roads in the city of Matola that need further intervention will have to wait for funds to be mobilised by the municipality.
