The Matola Judicial Court has dismissed the Renamo appeal contesting the preliminary results of the October 10 municipal elections. The ‘partridge’ party’s head of list, António Muchanga, says that his party will appeal right up to the last resort.
Muchanga challenges the judge’s dismissal of his party’s appeal based on the lack of complaint at the voting table and the late submission of the appeal, and denies that his party submitted the appeal late, saying it was submitted on Monday.
One of Renamo’s biggest complaints is the existence of three separate supposed result sheets (editais), two of which gave the advantage to Frelimo and one to Renamo.
Renamo’s head of List in Matola was speaking on Friday at the Assembly of the Republic, where he is a deputy, and where he has taken refuge since Thursday, alleging that his residence in Matola was surrounded by police armoured vehicles.
