The MultiChoice Talent Incubator (MTF) initiative is teaming up with filmmaker Licínio Azevedo in Maputo city, between the 17th and 28th of May, in a Screenwriting Masterclass which aims to improve the skills of professionals in the film and television industry.
The Screenwriting Creation Masterclass is the second phase of the Incubator project and will consist of interactive lessons taught by professionals in the cinema world. The period 20th to 26th of May is dedicated to the individual elaboration of scripts at home.
Director-general of MultiChoice Mozambique, Agnelo Laice, says in a press release that the initiative takes place in the context of MultiChoice Mozambique’s recognition of the critical role that its business plays in the growth of the film and creative industries of the African continent. “It is for this reason that we proudly decided to hold a Masterclass on Screenplay Creation with the filmmaker Licínio Azevedo,” she says.
The collaboration with Azevedo aims to further enrich the knowledge base of emerging creatives as well as experienced professionals, through learning based on technique and on delivery. The masterclass will address crucial elements such as basic film theory, script development, character presentation, as well as pitching, with examples of award-winning films.
Licínio Azevedo considers the partnership with the MTF an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences in creating scripts with individuals who are already rich in terms of storytelling and a performance talent in Mozambique.
“This collaboration with the MultiChoice Talent Incubator is unequivocal proof that MultiChoice Mozambique is committed to contributing to the local creative industry for the future production of local content that I hope to see on the DStv and GOtv platforms, as well as on national broadcasters,” the renowned filmmaker and screenwriter comments.
Since the introduction of these Masterclasses in 2018, the Incubator has offered some of the most sought-after training, facilitated by film and television experts including the famous Nigerian filmmaker Tunde Kelani and veteran Kenyan producer Appie Matere, and with notable world partners such as New York Film Academy (NYFA), Dolby, CBS Justice Africa, AMDA and the London Film School (LFS).
The MultiChoice Talent Incubator is a multi-level training program (Academies, Masterclasses & Portal), designed by MultiChoice Africa to have a positive impact on the technical and professional value chain of the film and television industry across the continent.
As a company originating from the African continent, MultiChoice has a long-term commitment to make a socio-economic difference in the countries where it operates, playing a positive role in the growth of the continent’s creative industries.
