Marracuene hosts tax justice campaign to influence the budget increase on education sector

Under the Gender Responsive Public Services Project, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) aimed to influence the increase of the tax revenue collected by the national government through the collection of fair taxes, the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Marracuene (UCAM) in partnership with ActionAid Mozambique (AAMoz) conducted a road show awareness within the campaign on taxation to influence the increase of the budget to the education sector.

The Road Show, according to Dakcha Achá, speaking at Representation of ActionAid Mozambique, was a different way of informing the citizen for greater collective involvement.

“By the number of participants, message, clarity and mainly by the use of informal and relaxed lectures through theatre, dance and comic numbers facilitated the retention and perception of information, I believe that most participants understood the message brought in this Road Show ” Said Achá.

It’s important to note that in addition to cultural moments such as dance, music and theatre around the importance of taxation, there was also health fair, Lecture on Domestic Violence, Nuit issue of and ID.

With this event, it is expected that there will be greater awareness of all about the importance of domestic mobilisation of resources through the payment of progressive taxes, both at the corporate and at the citizen levels to increase the state overall budget. Increasing the state budget will contribute to a greater allocation of resources to the education sector, thus ensuring an accessible, inclusive, free and quality education for all.

For the representative of the UCAM, Tomás Ouana, the message arrived and the evaluation is positive, noting that “the massive presence of the participants and guests is a sign that this subject is gaining importance in society.”

It should be noted that during the event, were collected signatures for a petition from civil society for a domestic and progressive mobilisation of resources. This petition will be submitted to the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, in December for, follow-up.
