Sellers of fish and shellfish at Mercado do Peixe in Maputo city held another demonstration in front of the premises this morning (17-08), demanding compensation for the sale of the old market plot.
Police had to go to the scene to calm the mood and ensure the safety and circulation of vehicles on Avenida da Marginal, which was being affected.
According to a statement from the protesters, the purpose of the march was to express dissatisfaction with the “exploitative and abusive” working conditions in the current market, and to highlight unfulfilled commitments in the process that guided the removal of vendors from the old fish market to the new one.
The statement explains that the action also hoped to solicit information on the status of the compensation relating to the pursuit of economic interests provided for in the resettlement agreement.
