Folha de Maputo
The Maputo/Katembe sea crossing is now restricted as a result of the breakdown of the “Bagamoyo” ferry on Friday.
According to Notícias, the first signs of trouble were identified at around 7:30 a.m., when the Bagamoyo, carrying hundreds of passengers and vehicles, was making for Maputo. The vessel nevertheless managed to reach the other side of the bay safely.
Since then, the vessel has been moored at the Maputo jetty, where technicians are repairing the single engine that the vessel was operating on, the first engine also having failed.
There are no forecasts on when the ferry will return to service, as this depends on the availability of replacement parts and how repairs to the engine progress.
This latest engine failure follows close on the heels of the recent breakdown of the crossings “Mpfumo” ferry.
