The supply of water to the Mozambique capital has returned to normal after the shortage registered at the beginning of the year, a municipality source says.
“There have been improvements and, consequently, distribution is back to normal,” Director of Industry and Trade for Maputo Sidónio dos Santos said at a meeting of local authorities on Tuesday.
Problems still persist in a half-dozen neighbourhoods: Chiango, Mahotas, Maxaquene A and B, Urbanização and Mafalala.
“Those neighbourhoods are in this situation because they are in elevated areas and on the edge of the network. They have still not received water with any regularity,” Mozambique information Agency quotes dos Santos as saying.
Local government is reactivating filling stations and opening boreholes to deal with the situation.
