Maputo’s Informal Association says that new stalls at Lalane market in Maputo are almost ready for occupation, and that the opening of the new market now only requires the endorsement of the municipality.
Such endorsement would be forthcoming once a bus terminal was provided and acceptable “sanitation conditions” secured, Miramar reports.

The new infrastructure dates back to March and was designed to accommodate informal vendors relocated from central Mozambique.
After eight months, there are many who await only permission to restart their businesses. One such is young Leandro, interviewed in the Miramar report below.
The new market in Lalane has more than 900 stalls, mostly for the sale of second-hand clothing.
