The resettlement of families relocated from the area covered by the infrastructure route linked to the Temane-Maputo power transmission line is practically complete, and houses are being delivered to beneficiaries along the route.
A total of 236 homes are being built for 70 communities in 14 districts in Inhambane, Gaza and Maputo provinces, with an investment of over 400 million meticais. The homes are equipped with basic services.
Adriano Jonas, project manager for the Temane-Maputo line, ensures that the resettlement areas have water supply, health systems, police stations and other social and economic infrastructures necessary for the well-being of the population.
The resettlement of families began in 2020, comprising several phases of implementation, with the construction of houses being completed in August of last year, with most of the housing in the province of Gaza, where a large number of the affected families are located, especially on the border with Maputo province.
Many resettlement and compensation programmes for communities affected by investment projects throughout the country result in conflicts.
It is in this context that the aim is to develop actions to support communities living near the resettlement areas so that they do not feel excluded from the development process.
“For this component, the procurement process is being finalised with a view to hiring the contractor who will build the infrastructures identified and approved jointly by the communities, local governments and tax authorities,” Adriano Jonas explained in an interview with ‘Notícias’.
These complementary resettlement works could begin next month and are expected to be completed by March, 2026.
Likewise, the process of identifying communities along the line that should be compensated for the loss of crops, businesses and other benefits took place.
The construction of the power transmission line connecting Maputo and Temane, covering a distance of around 580 kilometres, is now complete.
