More than 1,300 young people and adults have renewed contracts with the Municipality of Maputo to clean streets, schools and hospitals in the capital.
The work is facilitated by the Productive Social Action Programme, a joint initiative between the National Institute of Social Action and the Maputo Municipal Council. The goal is to provide poor households a source of predictable, seasonal income, O Pais reports.
Yesterday the initiative entered its fourth consecutive year, with 1,327 employees in seven districts of Maputo city.
Municipality of Maputo acknowledges that, after four seasons, the cleanliness of many of the capital’s streets is due to the role these men and women play. But in this period there were also challenges, especially financial ones.
The programme lasts six months in urban areas and four months in suburban areas.
