Two dead, seven injured, and three vehicles suffering major damage. Such is the result of a road accident involving three cars on the Maputo Ring Road in Matola on Saturday afternoon.
All three vehicles were traveling in the Matola Gare-Zimpeto direction.
A Toyota Sienta, registration number AHK 426 MC, driven by 52-year-old A Tsope crashed into a Toyota Corolla, registration number ADL 921 MP, driven by ZR Bila, aged 44 and a resident of the Inhagóia neighbourhood. Both drivers lost their lives at the scene.
The third car, registration ADF 252 MC, was driven by A. Zicale, 30, who contracted serious injuries.
Francisco Nhanala, head of the Traffic Police Department in Maputo, who confirmed the occurrence of the accident, told Notícias that it was caused by speeding, coupled with the state of the public road.
Nhanala said the two fatalities were removed to the morgue at Matola Provincial Hospital, while the seven wounded were transported to José Macamo General Hospital for medical care.
Nhanala called on drivers to comply strictly with the rules of the road, and avoid both mourning in families and further serious consequences for society at large.
