The city of Maputo raised about one billion meticais in taxes in the first half of this year, five percent more than it collected in the same period last year.
Speaking on Thursday after the 24th session of the Municipal Assembly, Mayor David Simango said the increase in tax revenue would enable several municipal council investments to go ahead, and finance better outcomes in the second half of the year generally.
A Maputo Municipal Police press conference yesterday presenting an overview of activities in the first half of the year revealed that three municipal police officers were removed for corruption and other irregularities.
The police spokesman also announced that the canine force would again be deployed to remove street vendors from the Praça dos Combatentes, commonly known as Xiquelene, an earlier attempt to do so having failed.
Municipal Police also revealed that they had inspected more than 56,000 semi-collective transports and fined more than 11,000 in the period under review.
