The Mozambican Police Force in Maputo has announced the creation of a task force to fight corruption within its ranks.
“The task force is there to prevent corruption. It is not a substitute for inspection. Each has a clear task. Our priority is to put a stop to corruption in our ranks and we will do so with honest agents working in the anti-corruption task force,” Notícias newspaper quotes police spokesman Bernardino Rafael as saying.
Rafael said that the team would monitor the activity of the protection and traffic police at fixed and mobile points in order to detect and prevent corruption.
The task force will also supervise the activity of state migration services employees, in order to prevent the sale of identity cards to foreign citizens.
Parallel to the creation of the team, the police are scheduling lectures to raise awareness of the damage caused by corruption.
