The ‘Futran’ urban mobility project, using elevated electric cars and promised by the Municipal Council of the City of Maputo, will be delivered on schedule, mayor of the metropolis Eneas Comiche says.
The country’s main cities are struggling with a lack of transport, which is causing serious mobility problems for people and goods. The city of Maputo, in particular, is reinventing itself to bring solution to this crisis.
The ‘Fultran’ transport system using suspended vehicles has recently entered the urban transport lexicon in Mozambican society.
It was first announced by the chairman of the Municipal Mobility and Parking Company, João Ruas.

The announcement sparked debate in several forums, including social media, prompting Mayor Comiche to go public this Thursday with promises that the project would be implemented.
“We haven’t made any releases yet; you are aware I don’t know in what ways, and I started to publicise it, but that will happen. We will have the Fultran project by the end of 2022 or later at the beginning of 2023. We will be able to give you details when the time comes, therefore, it’s good not to get ahead of ourselves before we actually know what the next steps will be,” he said.
Comiche is optimistic about the efficacy of this latest solution to the long-term transport problems plaguing the country’s capital.
