Mozambique: Protesters block N4 highway access to capital with fuel tanker

The Transmarítima company has decided that, from this week on, cargo and fuel trucks will have specific times for utilising the Maputo-Catembe crossing.
Heavy vehicles carrying cargo will make their operations from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and those transporting fuel from 10:00 to 11:00 PM. The vehicles indicated will not be allowed to board the ferry outside the established times.
According to the Transmarítima’s chairman Jafar Ruby, quoted today by Noticias, the measure is aimed at avoiding overcrowding and the risk of fire.
“Recent house-building in Catembe has resulted in heavy construction material loads. We do not want passengers competing for space with these carriers. Another factor is that transporting fuel is hazardous and better suited to less congested times,” Ruby said.
