Mozambique: Four bank robbers arrested in Chimoio - Watch
Maputo Sul, the concessionaire of the Maputo-KaTembe bridge and connecting roads, says it has no powers to offer the rebates on the toll rates requested by the residents of the municipal district of KaTembe.
This information appears in an official letter dated 4 December, whereby Maputo Sul responds to the KaTembe residents’ committee, which considers the current rates to be unsustainable.
“We hereby inform you that Maputo Sul EP does not have the power to grant the discount requested by Your Exc.,” the note says, suggesting that residents submit the request to the Minister of Public Works Housing and Water Resources and the Minister of Finance “who are the entities empowered to authorise exceptional measures”.
The government has approved a 75 percent discount for semi-public transport and passenger buses as a way of minimising the impact of the tolls on citizens who use public transport on a daily basis.
