The chairman of the Board of Directors of Maputo Sul Company, engineer Silva Magaia, told Radio Mozambique on Tuesday that the process of laying the Catembe bridge’s decking would proceed as planned in June, and that preparatory work was going smoothly.
“The construction of the main deck has indeed begun. The first steel cables have already been pulled, which will constitute the main support for the deck. Next, in June, the ship bringing the 57 metal deck modules will arrive. These are huge blocks weighing more than 150 tons, which will be hoisted into position 60 metres above sea level. This is the height vehicles will circulate in order to allow ships to pass under the bridge,” said Magaia.
